We have heard the community’s concerns regarding Rekmeister’s return, and we want to address them directly and transparently.
These concerns stem from allegations raised in September involving inappropriate messaging and attempts at humor that made some individuals uncomfortable, particularly within the ESL Impact community. We take these matters seriously and did not approach them lightly.
Our Review Process
Following the Knoxville event, Chicken Coop Esports paused operations due to separate and unrelated misconduct by another individual. This decision was made prior to any public claims or posts regarding Rekmeister, and the roster was not dropped in response to anything involving him.
Following that pause, we conducted an internal review that included a full assessment of submitted messages and materials, as well as consultation with external advisors to ensure impartiality.
Findings
The review did not find evidence of predatory behavior or illegal activity. Nevertheless, the interactions demonstrated poor judgment and humor that was inappropriate and caused discomfort for some individuals.
Rekmeister cooperated fully throughout the process and has acknowledged the impact of his actions and the discomfort they caused.
Stricter Standards Moving Forward
As a result of this situation, we have implemented a significantly stronger framework for accountability.
Our updated Code of Conduct now applies 24/7 to all players and staff.
Key updates:
- Mandatory training: on professional boundaries, consent, and online conduct
- Ongoing oversight: by our Head of CS2 Operations, @ioiocs2, including regular check-ins
- Zero-tolerance policy: any violations will result in immediate release
- Official anonymous reporting channel: conduct@chickencoop.gg
All reports are reviewed promptly and handled with discretion.
Looking Ahead
Chicken Coop Esports is focused on a more professional and structured future, continuing to be a home for North American Counter-Strike. With the new CS2 core, including Rekmeister, we are positioning the organization for a strong, accountable return in 2026.
We appreciate the community’s passion and engagement, and we ask that conversations moving forward remain respectful and constructive as we continue to grow.
